About the author

Rebecca Wells Phillips chose to use the pen names of Boo Black and Rachel Bleu to hide her identity in her autobiography, Hating Self. Growing up in a predominantly white town in Tennessee, the author did not want anyone to be able to identify her hometown because she did not wish to blame or shame anyone. Rachel Bleu is the pen name for her adult fiction book, Butterfly Blossoms, which deals with living authentically and the topic of being part of the LGBTQ community. Currently living in Asheville, Rebecca's current project is a nonfiction historical book called Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One. Following the hurricane's destruction in Western North Carolina, Rebecca returned to her broadcast journalism roots at Carson-Newman University. Through her writing, she seeks to help others navigate the pain, depression, and loneliness that often accompany those who are different or considered "others".
